Time brings Truth to light with the help of Justice
From the collection of Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. Free to download, adapt and use — no permission needed.
About this work
Father Time, with scythe and hourglass, draws the naked personification of Truth from a cave. He is assisted by Justice, with scales and sword. Various monsters and demons try to stop them. Two angels crown Truth and Justice with laurel wreaths. In the right foreground, two men fight (Discord). In the right background, three men converse with a fourth man while a devil looks on. The print has a Dutch inscription in a cartouche and Dutch text in the margin. Both texts express the hope that God will soon reveal the truth and end heresy in the Netherlands.
