About this work
On the bank of the River Styx, a king is stripped of his mantle, crown, and staff. On the ground lie symbols of secular and spiritual power, as well as of wealth. These items must be left behind by man after death. Together with other sinners, the king must take his seat in Charon's boat. The demonic ferryman ferries them to hell. The print has a Latin inscription and is part of a series on the theme of the misery that wealth brings.
