About this work
Imperial troops of Charles V invade Central America, 1530. The original population of then New Spain, now Mexico, practices cannibalism. In the foreground a Spanish soldier is stripped of his organs on the left and limbs of other soldiers are roasted. To the right two more dead soldiers are brought to that place. In the background Spanish soldiers and the local population fight a battle. The print is part of a twelve-part series on the victories of Charles V.
