About this work
On the bank of the river Styx a king is stripped of his mantle, crown and staff. On the ground lie symbols of secular and spiritual power, as well as wealth. These things man must leave behind after death. Together with other sinners the king must sit in the boat of Charon. The demonic ferryman ferries them to hell. The print has a Latin inscription and a Dutch and French inscription in letterpress. The print is part of a series with the subject the misery that wealth brings.
