Triumphal Car with War (Bellum)

A man with a lightning bolt and sword in his hand, the personification of War, rides on a triumphal chariot past a burning city. Behind the chariot, soldiers and prisoners walk. Next to the chariot, other personifications walk, such as Slander and Hunger. At the feet of War kneels the personification of Poverty (Inopia), which is incorrectly called Humilitas (Humility) on the print. Print from a series of nine prints with triumphal chariots from the Antwerp Circumcision procession of 1561. The personifications on the chariots together depict the cycle of human action.
