About this work
A golden goblet promised by stadtholder Willem IV to the Hague civic guard and presented by Princess Anna on May 8, 1753, after his death. The goblet is decorated with cornucopias, rocailles, garlands, rocaille cartouches with putti, and rocaille cartouches with texts. The lid is crowned with a crowned lion holding a crowned shield with the text Honi soit qui mal y pense.
