About this work
A Court Garden. In the middle of the print Bathsheba is seen, who is bathing at a fountain. King David (top left) sees her from his roof terrace (2 Samuel 11:2). He sends a messenger (bottom left) with the order to fetch Bathsheba to the palace (2 Samuel 11:4). The messenger then brings the message to the still bathing Bathsheba. A monkey (sin) and two peacocks (pride) watch the events. Two dogs on the left foreground depict courtship again. The series shows different aspects of courtship and some examples from the Old Testament.
