About this work

The Pharaoh of Egypt calls the Hebrew midwives Shiphrah and Puah to account. In the background the Egyptian people throw all newborn Hebrew boys into the Nile; the girls were allowed to live (Exodus 1). In the margin a two-line inscription in Latin.
