About this work
Abraham gives Hagar and Ishmael bread and a jug of water and sends them away. To the right in the background, the cause of this expulsion is visible: Ishmael mocks Isaac. Therefore, Sarah asked Abraham to banish Hagar and Ishmael. To the left in the background, Hagar and Ishmael are in the wilderness. Ishmael lies under a tree, the empty jug on the ground. An angel points the desperate Hagar to a spring. Below the image is a reference in Latin to the biblical text in Genesis 21.
