About this work
Abraham sends Hagar and Ishmael away with bread and a jug of water. On the right in the background the cause of this expulsion is visible: Ishmael mocks Isaac. Therefore Sarah asked Abraham to banish Hagar and Ishmael. On the left in the background Hagar and Ishmael in the wilderness. Ishmael lies under a tree, the empty jug on the ground. An angel points the desperate Hagar to a spring. Below the image a reference in Latin to the Biblical text in Gen. 21:14. This print is part of an album.
