About this work
Abraham gives Hagar and Ishmael bread and a jug of water and sends them away. On the right in the background the cause of this expulsion can be seen: Ishmael mocks Isaac. Therefore Sarah asked Abraham to expel Hagar and Ishmael. On the left in the background Hagar and Ishmael in the wilderness. Ishmael lies under a tree, the empty jug on the ground. An angel points the desperate Hagar to a spring. Below the image a reference in Latin to the Bible text in Gen. 21. This print is part of an album.
