About this work

Mattathias kills a Jew who, according to the king's order, wished to offer a sacrifice on the altar in Modeïn, and the king's envoy. Thus he demonstrated his devotion to the law of God. Below the image, a Latin reference to the Biblical text in 1 Maccabees 2:14. This print is part of an album.
