About this work
On the left, Mary sitting on a chair. She reads a book and is visited by the angel Gabriel, who announces to her the birth of a son who shall be called Christ. In the upper right corner, two tetragrams, symbols for God the Father and the Holy Spirit. The print has a Latin Bible quotation as an inscription and is the first print of a twelve-part series on the birth and early years of Christ.
