About this work
Jephthah returns after his victory over the Ammonites and is ceremonially welcomed by his daughter and women playing music. Jephthah is about to tear his clothes in despair, because he had promised God to sacrifice the first thing that would come out of his house to meet him. It turns out to be his daughter. Below the image a reference in Latin to the biblical text in Judges 11:34. This print is part of an album.
