About this work

The ten wise and foolish virgins wait in the foreground for the bridegroom. The five wise virgins on the left keep their oil lamps burning. The five foolish virgins on the right make music, drink, and sleep while letting their oil lamps go out. In the background, Christ as the bridegroom receives the wise virgins. The foolish virgins knock in vain at the door. Below the image, a Latin reference to the biblical text in Matthew 25:1. This print is part of an album.
