About this work

The female personification of Prudence (Prudentia), one of the four cardinal virtues. In her hands she carries her personal attributes: the mirror and the snake. On the left in the background possibly Daniel proving the innocence of Susanna. On the right in the background Christ and the woman caught in adultery (John 8:1-11). In the margin a two-line inscription in Latin. Fifth print from a series of virtues.
