About this work

Atlas carries the celestial globe on his shoulders and stands on a pedestal. To his left Fame blows a trumpet, to his right Neptune sits on a terrestrial globe. In the foreground sits far left Cybele, the personification of the earth, with a crown in the form of walls and towers on her head and a key in her hand. Next to her Geografia, personification of geography, describes a drawing board. Geografia is surrounded by various measuring instruments and holds a compass. At her feet lies a lion.
