About this work

Pedestal in the form of a cartouche. On it a medal with on the obverse the portrait of Girolamo (Hieronymus) Barbarigo, procurator of the Basilica of San Marco in Venice. On the reverse a knight on horseback. The pedestal is flanked by a Roman man in toga with a caduceus or staff of snakes and an armored woman with a sword. They hold a wreath of laurel leaves and a wreath of oak leaves above a stack of books and a set of armor. This may represent the personifications of Wisdom and Military Art.
