Maps of the Spanish Armada (25 and 27 July 1588)

Two maps (VII-VIII) with the Spanish and English fleets in the Channel near the Isle of Wight and near the Strait of Dover, within an ornamental frame. At the top of the frame the portraits of Sir Martin Frobisher and Sir John Hawkins. Between them a Corona Navalis (naval crown). The portraits are flanked by two putti with laurel wreaths. The right one has the wreaths hanging on a trident. Below the portraits Victoria on a Columna Rostrata, or a column in honor of a triumph decorated with ship prows. On Victoria's shield are the names of the persons knighted by the Lord High Admiral. In the bottom border of the frame one of the persons on board a ship is knighted. A man next to the Lord Admiral holds up a book. The print is part of an album. The image is part of a book about the Spanish Armada and the tapestries made for it on the order of Charles Howard.
