About this work

Fortune walks at the head of a procession of personifications. In her hands, a begging bowl and a purse. Fortune is blind and winged: she has both positive and negative effects and distributes them without distinction. Behind Fortune walk Labor, Diligence and Frugality. These are personifications representing qualities with which money can be collected honestly. Behind them walk Fraud, Lies and Violence. These are personifications depicting bad ways of acquiring money. Below the scene, a verse in Latin and a French and Dutch caption in book print. This print is part of an album.
