The Flight into Egypt

Mary gives the breast to Christ while sitting on the donkey during the Flight into Egypt. Joseph leads the donkey. In the background, the Massacre of the Innocents in Bethlehem and the legend of the rapidly growing corn. Some soldiers on horseback ask a farmer if he has seen a family pass by. The farmer tells them he saw the family when he was sowing the corn. The soldiers then conclude that it must have been a long time ago and abandon the search. On the right against the tree, a pointing little man with a sun on his head. Perhaps an idol soon to fall from its pedestal. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the biblical text in Matthew 2. This print is part of an album.
