About this work

Mary breastfeeding Christ while sitting on the donkey during the Flight into Egypt; Joseph leads the donkey. In the background, the Massacre of the Innocents in Bethlehem and the legend of the rapidly growing corn. Several soldiers on horseback ask a farmer if he has seen a family pass by. The farmer tells them he saw the family when he was sowing the corn. The soldiers then conclude that it must have been a long time ago and abandon their search. To the right, against a tree, a pointing figure with a sun on his head, possibly an idol soon to fall from its pedestal. Below the image, a Latin reference to the biblical text in Matthew 2:14. This print is part of an album.
