About this work

Mary gives Christ the breast while sitting on the donkey during the flight to Egypt. Joseph leads the donkey. In the background, the Massacre of the Innocents in Bethlehem and the legend of the rapidly growing corn. Some soldiers on horseback ask a farmer if he has seen a family pass by. The farmer tells them he saw the family when he sowed the corn. The soldiers conclude that this must have been a long time ago and abandon the search. To the right against the tree, a figure with a sun on his head. Perhaps he made the corn grow quickly. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the Bible text in Matt. 2. Bottom right, the series number: 13.
