About this work
Two biblical allegories in architectural framing. To the left Man is taken by the arm by the personification of Eternal Death, while the personification of God's wrath on the clouds holds his other hand. Eternal Death, as God's punishment for sin, leads Man to the mouth of hell, while he is driven by the personifications of Sin, Conscience and Despair. Below both representations a four-line verse in Dutch and a four-line text in Latin. The representation to the right is numbered: 8. Print from a Reformation series on the sinfulness and justification of man.
