About this work
Two biblical allegories in architectural framing. To the left the Annunciation to Mary by the angel Gabriel with God the Father and the Holy Spirit as a dove. The representation depicts the incarnation of Christ. To the right Man dressed in habit and with rosary between the personification of blind Reason and Christ. Man is deaf to the words of Christ and listens to the inspirations of Reason to trust in his good works. Below both representations a four-line verse in Dutch and a four-line text in Latin. Number 13 and 14 from a Reformation series on the sinfulness and justification of man.
