Reason and the Penitent Man

Two biblical allegories in architectural framing. To the left the personification of blind Reason, the inadequate human mind, blindfolded and with a burning torch to show Man the way to justification before God. To the right Man in the habit of penitence, kneeling before an altar with a representation of the Pietà. Man follows his reason to escape hell and earn heaven by performing good works.
