The Smoking of the Corsican, 1813

Satirical print on Napoleon after his loss in the battle of Leipzig, 1813. A small figure of Napoleon stands angrily stamping his feet on top of a large wooden vat with Dutch gin, causing the lid to come loose. Representatives of various European countries all smoke pipes and blow tobacco smoke at the emperor. In front a fat Dutchman sitting on a barrel of herring and a cheese, on the right the English John Bull, a Prussian hussar and others. On the left the king of Württemberg, an Austrian and a Spaniard.
