The Smoking of the Corsican, 1813

Satirical print on Napoleon after his defeat at the Battle of Leipzig, 1813. A small figure of Napoleon stands angrily stamping his feet atop a large wooden cask of Dutch gin, causing the lid to come loose. Representatives of various European countries all smoke pipes and blow tobacco smoke toward the emperor. In the foreground a fat Dutchman seated on a barrel of herring and cheese. To the right the English John Bull, a Prussian hussar, and others. To the left the King of Württemberg, an Austrian, and a Spaniard.
