Smoking of the Corsican, 1813

Satirical print on Napoleon after his defeat at the Battle of Leipzig, 1813. A small figure of Napoleon stands angrily stamping his feet on top of a large wooden barrel of Dutch gin, causing the lid to come loose. Representatives of various European countries are all smoking pipes and blowing tobacco smoke at the Emperor. Front: a fat Dutchman sitting on a barrel of herring and cheese. On the right: the English John Bull, a Prussian hussar, and others. On the left: the King of Württemberg, an Austrian, and a Spaniard.
