About this work
Princess Charlotte, standing with a whip, tells the seated King George IV that she has lost at the toll. On the toll, a seated figure, a Dutchman, is depicted. On the wall behind the woman, a painting shows a Cupid upside down on a sphere with 'Orange Above'. Princess Charlotte of England, who was once engaged to the Prince of Orange William (later King William II). She broke the engagement on 16 June 1814.
