About this work
King Rehoboam sent Adoniram, his overseer of the forced labor, to the rebellious Israelites. The people stoned Adoniram, who held a money bag in his hand, which he presumably intended to use for collecting taxes. In the background, King Rehoboam escapes in his carriage to Jerusalem. Below the image, a reference in Latin to the biblical text in 1 Kings 12. The print is part of an album.
