About this work

In the center a temple gate flanked by two water wheels. On the gate stand Death as a skeleton, Lady Justice and Father Time. Figures of different ages and ranks walk towards the gate from all sides, all carrying a bag of 'life's burdens' over their shoulders. At the top, figures with turbans are led to hell by a devil. In the foreground walk kings, scientists, soldiers and children. At the bottom cartouches with Italian text. More explanatory texts in Italian run through the scene.
