About this work

Aspasie, sitting in a nonchalant pose, after her amorous pleasures. The hat she wears was called 'chapeau à la nouvelle Omphale'. Japanese of striped muslin with an elegant border. Fichu and small shoulder cape, trimmed with a ruffled strip of fabric. Further accessories: earring in the left ear, tied neckerchief, corsage, shoes. From series ddd. 48e Cahier de Costumes Français, 42e Suite d'Habillemens à la mode en 1785, Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français.
