About this work

'Petit Maitre' walking on the boulevard, hands in pockets. He wears a light 'habit' closed with oval buttons of English steel. Underneath a striped waistcoat and knee breeches with bows at the hem. Tied neckerchief and striped stockings. Accessories: hat with cockade, twisted walking stick, fobs, shoes with round buckle. According to the caption he is an Adoniramite philosopher (= Freemason). From series ppp. 58e Cahier de Costumes Français, habillemens à la mode, Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français.
