About this work

Standing woman dressed in a lévite with train, trimmed with brandebourgs and decorative bands. The skirt is trimmed with a wide band and is, like the decorative band and the brandebourgs, in a contrasting color. Accessories: a hat with feathers: 'Chapeau à la Devonshire' or 'à la Spa', walking stick with gold knob and ribbon, sash around the waist, handkerchief, shoes. According to the caption, the hat was fashionable at the French court and was worn by Mme Devonshire. Copy after cc 162 from series cc. 27e Cahier de Costumes Français, 21e Suite d'Habillemens à la mode en 1779, Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français.
