About this work

Unmarried woman dressed in a caraco of taffeta on a matching skirt. On her head a 'demi bonnet' (cap). In her hand a walking stick with gold knob and ribbon. According to the caption, the clothes originate from Nantes in Brittany, where the bourgeoisie of the city brought them to M. le Duc d'Aiguillon in 1768. Copy after M 72 from series K. 10e Cahier des Costumes Français, 4e Suite d'Habillemens à la mode, Gallerie des Modes et Costumes Français.
