About this work

Man dressed in a wool redingote, trimmed with braids and edged with astrakan. Long wool trousers with buttons at the bottom. Silk cravat. 'Casimir' vest over a piqué vest. Further accessories: tall hat, gloves, lorgnette, walking stick, shoes with square toes and spurs. In the background a figure in the same redingote, seen from the back. The print is part of the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes, published by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797-1839.
