About this work

Standing man dressed in a wool 'habit' with a single row of buttons. 'Casimir' vest, trimmed with gold buttons. 'Casimir' breeches, fastened with mother-of-pearl buttons. On his head a tall 'castor' hat. Further accessories: striped neckerchief, gloves, lorgnette, walking stick, shoes with square toes. In the background a man, seen from the back, in a 'couleur osage' wool redingote over wool breeches. Print from the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes (1797-1839).
