About this work

Man with a tall 'castor' hat on his head. He wears a 'habit' in the color 'fumée de Navarin' trimmed with steel buttons and pleated 'basques' at the back, by Bailly. Below, a waistcoat and long trousers of 'casimir mérinos' with a front closure. Further accessories: knotted neckerchief, gloves, walking stick, shoes with square toes. Figure in the same 'habit', seen from the back. The print is part of the fashion magazine Journal des Dames et des Modes, published by Pierre de la Mésangère, Paris, 1797-1839.
