About this work
Neptune stands on the shore. In the sea, his hippocampi wait. Mestra had been sold as a slave by her father, King Erysichthon. She asks the gods for help, whereupon she is rescued by Neptune. The inscription refers to Mestra, but according to Durayer, Caenis is depicted here.
