About this work

Joseph is pulled out of the pit with ropes. His coat lies beside the pit. One of the brothers points to the passing group of Ishmaelites to whom Joseph will be sold. Bottom right, a reference to the Biblical text in Genesis 37:23. The accompanying text begins with a small decorated initial D. Accompanied by a motto in Latin and Dutch: "Noyt soo voorsichtigh is den haat, of doet sich selven 't meeste quaat." The sheet is part of an album.
