About this work
The hypocrite, with a devil above his head, shows that he is fasting. The believer, with an angel above his head, has his face rubbed with oil so that no one notices that he is fasting. They stand before a withered and a blooming tree, presumably a reference to Matt. 7:17: "Thus every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit." In the background the Sermon on the Mount. Letters are placed next to various elements in the scene. The print is part of an album.
