About this work

An actor in the role of a spy, wearing a hat and holding a fan, stands next to a man lying on the ground. The man lying down is kabuki actor Sawamura Sôjûrô IV in the role of Ôboshi Yuranosuke, feigning drunkenness. Yuranosuke seeks revenge and is being watched by spies. By pretending to be drunk and losing interest in revenge, he tries to mislead the spies.
