About this work
The four main characters from a Kabuki play depicted in their roles within a frame of black lacquer with copper fittings. At the top with a sword, actor Kawarazaki Gonjûrô I as the notorious thief Ishikawa Goemon; on the right with a fan, actor Ichikawa Yaozô VI as shogun Yoshiteru; on the left, actor Sawamura Tanosuke III in the role of Princess Ayanodai; and at the bottom, actor Bandô Hikosaburô V as Kinoshita Tôkichi.
