About this work
One of a series of six. The Son (Filius Prodigus) is driven out by Poverty (Paupertas), while Superstition (Superstitio) and Heresy (Haeresis) point him towards the Synagogue of Satan (Synagoga Sathanae). There he kneels before a man on a throne. On the throne is the word Disease (Morbus), on the pillar Stubbornness (Obstinatio). Print from a series of six woodcuts depicting the History of the Prodigal Son with six-line Latin inscriptions in book type. The woodcut is hand-coloured, with the costumes of the depicted figures adapted / modernised.
