About this work
Upper left corner of an allegorical representation with the portrait of Armand-Jean du Plessis, Duke of Richelieu, seated on a chair in the upper left, with muses or nymphs to his right offering him various coats of arms. In the center stands Apollo with his lyre, with a view to the outside behind him where the mast of a ship is visible. Above him, angels or putti fly with portraits of various figures. To the right of Apollo are various figures (including possibly Hercules) fighting a lion. In the middle below lies Neptune among anchors and his retinue.
