About this work
Two scenes of the cruelties committed by French troops in Dutch villages in the year 1672, copied from the prints by Romeyn de Hooghe from 1673 (FM 2439). In the upper scene, French soldiers drag a man, woman, and child behind an ox across the ground. Below, soldiers shoot at people trying to flee by boat. The print is numbered: 8. According to Valckenier, the print depicts the events at Waverveen and Botshol.
