About this work

Celestial map showing the geocentric system of the Greek poet Aratus, based on his work 'Phainomena'. In the center is the Earth, surrounded by the orbits of the planets, the sun, and the moon. In the orbits, the various gods associated with the planets are depicted. In the outer ring is the zodiac. The map features a degree scale along the edges. Title cartouches in the upper left and right corners, supported by putti. In the lower left and right corners, a scene with debating scholars and cartographers and various geometric instruments. Numbered in the lower right corner: 8.
