About this work

A cleric kneels in prayer with the instruments of Christ's Passion; a man next to him also kneels in prayer and tramples the devil. They turn to God, who is enthroned in heaven, and the saints who can intercede. On seven shields, the virtues are depicted that the meditation prescribes and which man must pursue during his life: faith, hope, love, justice, temperance, strength, and prudence.
