About this work

A cleric kneels in prayer with the Instruments of the Passion of Christ; a man beside him also kneels in prayer and tramples the devil. They turn to God enthroned in heaven and the saints who can intercede. On seven shields are depicted the virtues that the meditation prescribes and which man must strive for during his life: faith, hope, love, justice, temperance, strength, and prudence.
